Coming in early 2027
The Ludlow HKICW is based on the only extant example, in the Waterhouse Collection.
Nothing is known about the maker of the original HKICW but it is estimated to have been made around or before 1700. The HKICW bears similarities with a bassoon made by Richard Haka, the earliest identifiable bassoon maker.
Haka was London-born but worked in Amsterdam as part of a late 17th and early 18th century "school" of woodwind makers and it may be that the HKICW was made in Amsterdam - possibly by Haka himself or an associate. The wing joint of the original HKICW is missing and we have based our wing joint on a Haka wing joint, suitably modified.
The Ludlow HKICW has been designed and crafted wholly in our workshop, benefiting from the opportunity to measure and play the original in the Waterhouse Collection. It plays at A=415Hz.
The Ludlow HKICW features:
Air dried, aged maple body finished in oil-based varnish
Four brass keys, with an optional fifth
One matched brass crook
Artesana baroque bassoon gig bag
