Ludlow Historical Bassoons

Ludlow Pörschmann - Baroque

Coming in early 2027

Johann Pörschmann made bassoons in Leipzig from 1708 until 1757. He was a contemporary, and friend, of Eichentopf - another renowned bassoon maker - and, of course, JS Bach who lived in Leipzig from 1723 to his death in 1750.

The Ludlow Pörschmann is a four key instrument as standard. One of the extant examples is an eight key instrument; the extra keys are likely to be later additions, but if required we can offer up to four further keys using this example as a model. It is pitched at A=415Hz.

The Ludlow Pörschmann features:

  • Air dried, aged maple body finished in oil-based varnish

  • Four brass keys, with an optional fifth

  • Ornamented brass bell ring

  • One matched brass crook

  • Artesana baroque bassoon gig bag
